What Can I Put Down My Bathroom Sink To Unblock It?

Even the cleanest apartment owners face such a problem as clogged pipes. Therefore, in your home stock, you always need to have the tools and devices that will cope with this nuisance. Let’s take a closer look at how to remove a blockage in the bathroom.

Reasons for the appearance

There can be several reasons for the pollution of the water supply system. First, you need to understand whether it concerns only your apartment or the entire sewer riser. In the first case, you can fix the problem yourself, but in the second you need to call a specialist.

To determine the degree of blockage, turn on the water from taps that are not connected to the same drain system. For example, in the bathroom, and in the kitchen. If there are no problems in one of the sinks, then you are dealing with local pollution, which you can eliminate yourself.

  • Incorrect pipe slope during installation.
  • Old sewerage system.
  • Debris and hair adhering.
  • Lumps of pet hair.

If there are several options for how to clear the blockage in the bathroom:

  • Thermal – under the influence of high-temperature water.
  • Mechanical – opening the drain system or using a cable.
  • Pressure cleaning – plunger.

Thermal impact

The easiest cleaning method is boiling water. This method works well in the kitchen sink, where grease can clog the drain. It is enough to turn on hot water for 10-20 minutes and the plug will gradually disappear. If you have iron pipes, you can pour boiling water from a kettle into them.

Cable

A similar method is used if the cork is very deep and superficial methods of influence cannot cope with it.

The cable itself is made of galvanized steel wire rope or spring-wound type. At the end of the product, there is always a brush or a hook with which you can pick up the resulting pollution, pull it out, or push it into a wider part of the sewer system.

How to clean pipes with a cable:

  • Hold the tool firmly by the handle and push it into the drain.
  • Push in with a twisting motion.
  • After the product has rested against the blockage, you need to sharply push it forward and pull it towards you again.
  • Pull the cable out carefully. Hold it firmly with both hands so that it does not bounce.
  • Turn on hot water to rinse off any remaining mud plug.

The tool can also be made from improvised means; for this, take a flexible metal cable 2-3 meters long. Its tip can be either slightly “fluffed” by straightening the rods in different directions or bend with a crochet hook. For convenience, wrap the other end with a thick cloth, so you get a kind of handle.

Cleaning the siphon

If the water does not leave, and a persistent unpleasant sewer odor appears in the room, this may indicate that the siphon is clogged.

Despite the fact that this device should prevent foreign objects from entering the sewer system, as well as prevent the appearance of unpleasant odors, it often causes liquid stagnation.

Place an absorbent cloth underneath or place a small basin before disassembling the structure.

Unscrew all fasteners, drain the liquid and remove the flask. After you have completely cleaned the structure, the product can be reassembled. Please note that the drain pipe must not rest on the flask. If the installation conditions are violated, the smell of sewage will appear in the room.

Turn on the water and check the siphon for leaks. If everything is installed correctly, then the bottom of the basin can be removed. Do not flush all the cleaned-out dirt and lumps down the toilet or sink. It is better to dispose of this dirt as regular waste – in a bucket.
