5 Factors to Consider Before Getting a Nose Job

Cosmetic procedures can help someone have a dramatic increase in their self-perception, so why do some people still think getting plastic surgery or “work done” is so bad? While there is stigma around plastic surgery, it’s something that can help a person go from hating their appearance to adoring the way they look.

Are you thinking about correcting a part of your nose that you’ve always hated?

While there are alternatives to a nose job that you can consider, classic rhinoplasty is still a great option in some cases. Of course, you can’t just jump onto the operating table without really planning out if it’s the best move for you or not.

Read on to learn about some of the main questions that you should consider before you get a nose job.

1. Do You Know What to Expect?

There are plenty of people out there that don’t like their nose, but it’s important to remember that there are risks with going under the knife. While you may have clear expectations about what you think your nose will look like afterward, if your surgeon doesn’t share those clear expectations, the results won’t be what you want.

You need to make sure that everyone is on the same page before you begin the rhinoplasty surgery. Take a look at before and after pictures with your surgeon to figure out what you want and let them know what types of results you’re looking for.

2. How Much Time Do You Have for Recovery?

While you should be able to be up and about within 24 hours of the procedure, you’ll need to take some time off of work or school. For most people, a week is likely to be the most appropriate amount of time off.

The main reason for this is that the first several days are going to include some swelling, redness, and bruising. You’ll have to keep ice packs on to reduce the swelling and keep your head elevated at all times.

Any sutures or nasal dressings that you may have had will be removed around 7 days after the surgery as well. After this point, you will likely be able to cover any remaining bruising or discoloration with makeup, and will probably feel comfortable appearing out in the world again.

If you have an open rhinoplasty, the recovery time is going to be much longer. This is necessary in some cases, so always talk with your plastic surgeon before the nose job surgery to make sure that you understand how long recovery will take. In reality, your nose may take an entire year to actually heal completely.

3. Are You OK With the Results Not Being Perfect?

Any surgeon that knows their stuff is going to tell you that you simply can’t have a perfect nose after surgery. It’s not possible.

If you go into the surgeon’s office and ask for a nose that looks like Kim Kardashian’s, you’re going to find that even her nose is Photoshopped and contoured in photos – it isn’t real. Even if it was, surgeons don’t want to give you someone else’s nose because it may not even suit your face!

You may want to correct a hook in your nose, get rid of big nostrils, or simply slim the shape. These are all things that a surgeon can do for you.

The surgeon can give you a nose that looks a little bit more flattering on your face and makes your overall features complement each other with ease. Your face will look more like what you imagined, and if you’re not happy with the result, many surgeons are willing to offer free revisions to give you the look you want.

4. Will It Bother You if Others Don’t Notice?

In some cases, the issue that you see in your nose is so slight that others may not even realize it’s there. As a result, after the nose job, they may not be able to tell that you’ve had the work done at all!

Remember that you should be doing the rhinoplasty surgery for yourself and no one else. You should only complete the procedure if you think that it will make you feel better (or if you have medical reasons that require the surgery). The money and pain that come with the procedure are only worth it if it’s something that you want for your own self-esteem and self-image.

Your face will look a little different afterward, sure, but unless other people look at your face every day, you may have to pull up a before and after photo to show them the actual results.

5. Are You Ready to Research Surgeons?

No two surgeons are going to do the job exactly the same way, and this is a type of surgery that requires serious expertise. As a result, you need to do some research on which surgeons have the know-how and the experience needed to do your rhinoplasty well.

You want a doctor that is exceptional at their job, especially considering they are going to be cutting into your face and reconfiguring it. Even if a plastic surgeon has great reviews, they may be known mostly for breast augmentations (which is not exactly the same thing as a nose job). This is why your research has to be specific.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions and find surgeons that specialize in rhinoplasty or facial surgery. This will not only make you feel more confident in their abilities, but it will also give you higher chances of loving the final result.

Consider These Things Before Your Nose Job

Getting a nose job can be a wonderful confidence booster, but it can also be a great way to give your face the look you’ve always wanted. You’ll feel better in photos, look better in person, and be overjoyed by the small change.

In order to get the results you want, spend some time looking up different surgeons to find the right one. You want to choose someone that has the experience and can help you figure out which nose shape will suit you best.
